In Richard’s own words this album is targeted “for people at the back of the church checking the faith out for relevance.” I think they’d find some insights here - “Lighthearted” (with an excellent, tight and crisp production - not always evident on Richard’s output) thanks the Lord for another day; “Addict” is a gutsy and moving semi-blues with hard hitting lyrics. But as often throughout the Richard O’Conor Project it’s when it’s just our man and his trusty acoustic that the full impact of this songsmith comes through. Take “Shepherd” - an elusively simple song which oozes sincerity. So there you have it, another of Richard’s four album releases. It remains to be seen how many people outside of the flock at St Barnabas in Kensington will investigate these budget line, do-it-yourself CDs. But I’m really glad this intelligent, honest lover of God took the time and trouble to let the CD-buying public glimpse his heart through his earthy, zany and, best of all, moving music.
