Released under Rockfest Records, this is the forth full length studio album from the rockers out of Denver, Colorado, who have never quite made it to the upper echelons of Christian rock popularity like Skillet (a member of whom produced a Random Hero EP a few years back) but have nevertheless built a CCM support base. Produced by Memphis May Fire's Kellen McGregor, the four-piece band deliver 10 slabs of quality rock. Although this recording is not particularly aggressive, without exception, the cuts are highly focussed and full of well-crafted hooks. Very much in the pop rock mould of OneRepublic this is edgy power rock with a commercial twist. The opening "Desperate Measures" is a memorable, in-your-face track, full of rhythmical sensibilities and the groove of polished stadium rock. "Motivation" and "Public Enemy" also continue the theme with the rumble of quality hooks and tight changes in rhythm. A quieter ballad in "Slow Close" takes the pace and volume down a notch, but also has the tendency to disappear into anonymity amongst the other classy tracks on offer. If you enjoy an immersive, luxurious sound, Random Hero are your band. With honed skills these musicians know their craft and the melodies are all topped off by Aaron Watkin's classy vocals that ooze power. It's a shame 'Tension' comes in at just over 30 minutes. Expect to hear a track or two on the Cross Rhythms and xRhythms playlists.
