For statistics buffs, this is PID's fifth album, first name change and nth change in line up. One thing that has remained constant is the increasing hardness in their music (and their lyrics are getting more cryptic too). Like T-Bone's debut last year, this has been produced by the LA Posse, who seem to be getting a lot of Christian clients these days. It's hard, it's funky, it's too intense to be fully appreciated with just one listen (so why am I writing this?). Most of the time we're treated to the harsh realities of life in the 'hood', seen through the eyes of some gang member who obviously knows that this Jesus dude could have an adverse effect on his hard man image and street cred. On the track "Good Times" the Preachas reminisce about their favourite cartoons, first records, first loves and more. Whoever designed the sleeve must have been out to get us. Not only are the tracks not in the listed order but my CD should have 10 tracks on side 1 and seven on side 2 (am I missing something here?). But let's not nitpick and just say that the Preachas have once again brought out a good album - although if your preference is for something in the DC Talk vein, maybe you should give it a miss.
