Known for their individualistic blend of punk, hardcore and patriotic influenced lyrics, California's Platoon 1107 take a slight departure in this second of four EPs. Still aggressive in intensity and passion, 'Day Of Anger' is a fuller, more immersive sound than I would recognise from what I have heard of them in the past. In a novel approach, the recording consists of a single track that combines six songs woven together with spoken interludes. "Stonecaster" opens the recording with dissonant guitars and tumbling drums. There are hints of classic metal spliced with traditional hardcore angst. Breakdowns fill the short songs which run seamlessly into one another. "Father's Day" is a slower lumbering number that has a catchy lilt and links the high energy of the other songs. As the EP progresses, moans and growls introduce "Hermeneutics And Exegesis" which develops and explores the theme of questions of faith. This free download also includes two other separate tracks comprising of instrumental versions of the songs and also an interlude free recording. After a short seven minutes and 27 seconds, it closes all too quickly with an ambient wash of synthesisers. It is a pity the recording was so short. I will certainly be looking out for the others in this passion filled series.
