This latest album from Randy Phillips, Shawn Craig and Dan Dean is "a statement against the tide of anxiety that's being sold by the loudest voices in our culture" and is the usual mixture of vocal pop and slightly edgier rock that the three pastors have been churning out for the best part of two decades now. As it turned out the powerful "Revelation Song" has proven to be the biggest Christian radio hit of the year in the States. The music is certainly uplifting, if not terribly demanding, and the message is very clear - just reading the song titles lets you know what they're wanting to get over to the listener: "Counting On God", "When Grace Walks In", "Let God Be God" and "Great Are You, Lord". Performance and production on this album are excellent though in truth many Brits will find this set to be dull and stereotypical US CCM, with a big sound, powerful ballads - and not a great deal of soul. Having said that, the singing pastors are clearly enjoying themselves and do all they can to encourage the listener to worship God (Paul Baloche and Jared Anderson are among the writers here). But there's still a vital spark missing.
