From the gospel-tinged ballads to the choirs trying to attain to the heavens and definitely to the lyrics which describe the road of discipleship in realistic and encouraging overtures this is a moving album. Phil's voice ranges from Joe Cocker's gruffness to Michael Bolton's blue-eyed soul licks and the music compliments his styles. The surprise hit on the CD was Phil's version of the Beatles' "Long And Winding Road". "The Road To Jerusalem" seems to be lyrically inspired by Bob Marley's "One Love" whilst "Christ Remains" is a pleasing ballad that reminds me of a Eurovision type song saved by the Handel's "Messiah"-type brass section and the depth of the words. The rest are either gospel choir inspired tunes or jazzy type numbers that will leave the stereo sounding rather pleased with itself. 'A Different Man' could have easily slipped off a Michael Bolton CD! I enjoyed the feel of the music, the standout brass section and the sense of Phil's spiritual journey. Definitely a different man.
