Incorporating sounds and styles we would associate with Tim Hughes and Delirious? and adding them to '80s rock ballad ("Standing At The Cross") and the indie sounds of the '00s ("Dancing In My Heart"), this five-track EP from Sheffield's St Thomas' worship leader Pete James has a fun, refreshing, exciting and engaging feel and will appeal to youth and adults alike. I'm told Pete used to be a member of Oxygen but this is a million miles from teen pop. Instead this is guitar-driven rock praise of a high order. In fact, three of the tracks on this EP have already featured on New Wine albums 'Heavenbound' and 'Cry Freedom', one of these "Take Me In Closer" being particularly notable. It plays like an incredible journey, beginning with an intimate ballad feel as found with Hillsong's 'Saviour King' and culminating in a huge guitar-driven chorus that could so easily have come from Delirious?' 'History Maker' or Switchfoot's 'Dare You To Move'. These songs are in active use in Pete's church and are deserving to be used likewise in churches across the country if not the world.
