Call me a cynic but I had a low expectation of this album. Let’s face it, the idea of an African-born diva who in the past has done everything from opera to Judy Garland tributes doing an African worship thing with two producers who’ve never been near Africa sounds like a recipe for disaster. That shows how wrong I was. Patti’s voice oozes class, the songs are genuinely uplifting, and best of all, the production from Dan Bowater and Howard Williams is always clever and occasionally inspired. I suppose if you wanted REALLY authentic African worship you’d search out an import by Rebecca Malope but for those in the Church unfamiliar with Patti’s powerful vocal chops and those in the world who don’t know the special atmosphere engendered when singing to the living God, this is great stuff.
