The title track of this veteran duo's latest set has just been added to the Cross Rhythms playlist and was issued as a single prior to the album's release, though it's by far the most upbeat thing on the whole project. Elsewhere there are loping ballads and probing lyricism, many accompanied by some delicately picked acoustic guitar. "Betting On The Muse", inspired by writer Charles Bukowski, wrestles with finding a second act to life after an earlier peak; "Let You Down" is an intimate look at a love letter; while "Los Lunas" is a haunting poem about a tearful drive. Highly regarded studio musicians like Jay Bellerose (percussion), Greg Leisze (pedal steel, mandolin) and Jennifer Condos (bass) all give texture to these poignant and often poetic songs. Though occasionally the sheer honesty of lines expressing heartbreak and loss make for a difficult listen and it is clear that many of the puzzles of life still haven't been solved by these sensitive Christian songsmiths, there is hope elegantly expressed in several of these songs as Karin beautifully sings, "We're not curable, but we're treatable/And that's why I still sing."
