This is a moving record. Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist - who are not brother and sister, in case you were wondering - were touring as Over The Rhine when they came to realise that their energy was going into their music and not their relationship. They decided they had to pull the plug on the tour and go home and figure out if being together was something to which they were still committed. 'Drunkard's Prayer' is part of that process and we are privileged to be allowed to eavesdrop into what must have been an emotional time. Two richly talented people cannot help but give us something special and here we get 10 new songs plus a wonderful cover of the Broadway oldie "My Funny Valentine". Those of you who have been following the journey of Over The Rhine over the years will find this new album to be another memorable addition to your collection and if you enjoyed 'Ohio' this will also please. For newcomers this may not be the best place to start but anyone who is in a relationship that does not seem to be going anywhere will find much to think and pray about if you ponder what is being said. It is quiet music so play it loud.
