Some UK concerts are long overdue for the choir which has now become one of the most unexpected phenomena in international gospel music. In the meantime, we have this, another impeccably smooth rendition of Scandinavian gospel music recorded live in concert. It features several of the numbers heard on previous albums. Connoisseurs of black gospel might feel the songchoice is predictable (Smallwood's "In This House", Bazil Meade's "How I Got Over" and even that most enduring of gospel war horses "Oh Happy Day" while doyen's of black church might argue that the choir's sound lacks the scream-up-a-storm steam heat of many a black choir. But such criticisms miss the point. The Oslo's are popularisers, taking the rich, polyrhythmic textures of black choir music into concert halls used to slader fair. And they do this brilliantly
