Five years ago record producer Lawrence Johnson and label boss Les Moir joined together to record a charity single to raise money for those suffering in the aftermath of the Asian tsunami. One Voice was born and eventually the journey led to the release of an album. After the earthquake in Haiti, it quickly became obvious to Les and Lawrence that here was a moment to return to Abbey Road studios in London with a collection of singers and rappers from the gospel and Christian music scenes. "Somebody Please Help Haiti" follows the same formula as the previous One Voice single with multiple solo vocals providing the lead while a choir adds some atmosphere. While this song is deeper than "One Voice One Heart", reflecting the situation in Haiti, I'm not convinced that the song works as well musically when the lead vocal is handed over to so many singers. This time out, it feels a little overcrowded. However there's no argument that the cause is a good one and Compassion UK will benefit from the funds raised and the people on the ground will have their lives changed significantly.
