GMA New Artist Of The Year nominees No Other Name consist of siblings Sam and Laura Allen and friend Chad Smith and their debut release sees them team up with producer Bernie Herms (Natalie Grant, Casting Crowns) to offer up a polished slice of US CCM. There is a refreshing focus on Heaven and songs like the title track boldly proclaim the hope that things will be better in the afterlife whilst "Even Angels" gives a further glimpse into the invisible with No Other Name's vocal prowess taking centre stage backed by a suitably tight group of session musicians. Elsewhere, the trio are keen to urge the listener to make a difference to the Kingdom whilst still here on earth with conscience-pricking songs like "Before I Go" and "Lead You To The Cross" whilst the evangelism-focussed "Let It Start With Me" has even been adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention as its missions theme song. Highlights include the story song "Maplewood Methodist Church" which celebrates a life of secret prayer and successfully treads the fine line between poignancy and schmaltz to offer up something rather memorable and touching. To cap a more than competent release, an acappella version of the old hymn "Christ Arose" demonstrates No Other Name's Southern gospel roots and showcases the impressive vocal skills of an outfit who have it all ahead of them.
