Somerset's Nigel & Rowena Steady have been working in the sharp end of Christian music ministry for over 30 years. They perform in hospitals and old people's homes rather than clubs and auditoriums and despite a string of releases on their Cherith Music label they've never got the recordings into many Christian bookshops let alone the HMVs of this world. But that hasn't stopped the Steadys touching the lives of thousands and this five-song EP plays to their strengths. Rowena's pure-toned, perfectly pitched voice sounds classically trained while Nigel's always sympathetic keyboard accompaniments make gentle-on-the-ear music which is soothing and, in its own way, quietly evocative. Pride of place on this EP is their lilting version of the old hymn "Immortal Invisible God Only Wise" which in the past Rowena has sung in old people's homes to residents often suffering from dementia. It touched them and if you allow it to this recording will touch you. Elsewhere there is an attractive Rowena Steady composition "Israel" and David Gates' worship song "Be Still (I've Filled My Days With Details)". It all works.
