As several critics have already pointed out, Nicole C Mullen embraces a spectacularly wide sweep of music from smooth inspirational balladry to full on gospel funk. So eclecticism rules here and cut over a lengthy period 'Everyday People' brings in a veritable smorgasbord of producers including Tommy Sims (CeCe Winans, Cliff Richard), James 'Big Jim' Wright (Usher, Mariah Carey), Andrew Ramsey (India Arie, Kimberly Lock), Shannon Saunders (Shark Tale soundtrack, The Temptations) and not forgetting Nicole herself working alongside husband David. Pride of place on this set goes to the title track, a blistering cover of the old Sly & The Family Stone hit while elsewhere she purrs pure and sweet on the worshipful "I Am", addresses the issue of Troski slavery in Ghana on "Gon" which opens with a full on tribal drum vibe; a moving song about a deceased little girl, "Bye Bye Brianna"; and sings powerfully on "Valorie" which builds and builds to culminate in a reading of Psalm 23:4. With such a wide sweep of styles this set won't be to everyone's taste but no one can doubt that Nicole is a class A diva.
