This 2014 collection, with a generous 15 tracks, grabs the attention right from the start with a rousing version of "Joy To The World" - on this track and throughout the album the choir and orchestra sing and play with infectious enthusiasm with rich orchestrations matched by fine vocal arrangements. It's worth noting as well that the New Irish Youth Choir contributes effectively to the proceedings. Producer/conductor Jonathan Rea gets his choirs and orchestra to breathe new life into the classics without resorting to any gimmickry, and, as I think all Christmas albums should, introduces us to new and less familiar material. I particularly loved Don Patterson's "Jesus Is His Name", all the better for Eilidh Patterson's vocal solo. There's one instrumental track, "Carol Of The Bells", and this certainly is the best version I've ever heard, right from that opening and insistent drumbeat. If I have any qualms at all, it's concerning "Mary's Boy Child" - too much like a lounge song for me!

Product Description
For the past 5 years The New Irish Choir & Orchestra have been hosting an annual Christmas event called ‘Ireland in Christmas Praise’. Playing to sold out audiences this event is now a regular on the Belfast Christmas calendar and has become a Waterfront favourite. This album A New Irish Christmas has been recorded due to the popularity of the event and features The New Irish in splendid form.
Classic versions of Joy To The World, O Come All Ye Faithful, Ding Dong Merrily on High and Silent Night are favourites that will get everyone singing. Soloists on this project include a stirring rendition of O Holy Night by Sylvia Burnside and the beautiful voice of Eilidh Patterson singing what has become an event favourite Jesus is his Name, a local song written by her father. The CD is brought to a rousing end with the funtastic medley A Christmas Carol Fantasy bursting with its Disneyesque arrangement. This is a must for your Christmas playlist this year and is set to be a standard for many years to come…..enjoy.
