Urgent notice to any major label bosses reading this review - SIGN THIS BAND NOW! Nervous Passenger are a five piece band from Edinburgh, this is their very first recording but sounds better than many recordings by artists who have been doing it for years. The overall sound is similar to that of Crowded House or REM (circa 'Automatic For The People'). The five tracks on the CD cover a wide range of styles, first up being the title track, a lively semi-acoustic effort. Second is "Unexpected Success" a very loud no nonsense rock number. This is followed by one of the best tracks I have heard in a long time; "What Makes A Friend A Friend" is one of those rarities - an honest and frank tear jerker of a song that manages to cut through your pretences and goes straight to the heart, but without ever descending into gooey sentimentality or twee lyrics. There's still room for a bluesy acoustic number "Changing Day" and a low key acoustic version of "Unexpected Success". A very impressive first outing by the band and I look forward with great enthusiasm to hearing the band do a full length album.
