It is with great pleasure that I heard the news that Neal Morse had given his life to Jesus. Finally, a real musician, one who I truly respect and admire, was on our side. And not just any musician, vocalist and songwriter; but the creative force behind Spock's Beard! I first became aware of Morse about five years ago when Spock's Beard supported Dream Theater on their UK tour. Neal then went on to form Transatlantic with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, drums), Pete Trewavas (Marillion, bass) and Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings, guitar, vocals). This is pedigree indeed! 'Testimony' is both a worship and a progressive rock concept album. Oh what a joy to be speaking of progressive rock, concept albums and CCM in the same sentence! This double disc album (three with special bonus disc edition boxed-set) is a masterpiece. I can't stress that enough. Another thing that I greatly admire about Neal's work is that - unlike many before him - he didn't become a Christian, give a couple of interviews and carry on as before; he put his money where his mouth is, in more than one sense. And this album is his journey. Neal Morse has gone the opposite route and I wanted to tell you just how talented he is and what an impact he's had on me as a musician. I also should mention that Mike Portnoy plays drums on this album (yes, the best prog metal drummer in the world). I can't recommend this album enough.
