Great little album from a great little band. My Friend Stephanie manage to create a post grunge edgy sound mixed with plenty of melody. Alongside the more hyped Skillet, Seven Day Jesus, Audio Adrenaline et al, these guys deserve to be thoroughly given the once over by discerning rock fans. The opener “Journey” neatly sets the pace with some driving guitar. My favourite is probably “How Are You” which builds into a spectacularly catchy chorus spoilt only by the inclusion of a dentist’s drill in the mix which had me (a confirmed dentalphobic) rushing for the remote control! Shame because it’s a brilliant song which the less squeamish will enjoy! Elsewhere “Love Again” has a bit of a Britpop thing happening and “You Are God” mixes a bit of ‘60s into the mould with melotron and sitar sounds and it’s one of those quieter intimate moments. Pretty top actually! Roaring guitars ahoy on “See You Again” and “Yesterday” punctuate a sweep of more acoustic sounding pieces highlighting the band’s keen sense of melody. Overall it’s well worth making the acquaintance of My Friend Stephanie.
