Back in the '90s, Miss Angie ploughed a pioneering furrow of a female vocalist who delivered lyrics with rock attitude over pop punk melodies. She delivered two fine albums and was compared to the likes of Blondie and Cyndi Lauper for her distinctive breathy sound. After a break of 12 years she returned in 2011 and has intermittently been releasing singles and EPs through to the current day. This 2013 EP still features the distinctive vocals of old, but has with time moved more towards the pop end of the musical spectrum than rock. Opening with electronic drums and keys, "Spiritual Temperature" is a spacious track that floats in waves and leaves plenty of room for a haunting vocal to draw you in. Keys feature heavily in the majority of the tracks which are full of pop savvy hooks as experienced in the sing along chorus of "Stay Afloat" which contrasts well with its quieter verses. An album of impressive dynamics, this track eventually builds to a heavier piano rock number before returning to a quiet outro. The most enjoyable listen on this short collection was the chirpy "Trip To Heaven" which bounded along in a way that reminded me of Mungo Jerry and "The Bicycle Song". Throughout the EP, lyrics are positive and full of gospel references making this recording a cheerful, uplifting listen. With warm, crystal clear production you are soon singing along to these easy pop melodies.
