Now is this guy taking his assault on the CCM business seriously or not? Once Miles Salter, now Miles Cain (I wonder if he knows that's an anagram of I Can Smile?). Anyhow, there is a true talent emerging here. There were a number of ideas on his first tape but here you get closer to the real Miles with songs that mean a lot to him. That's not to say that all 10 tracks are brilliant but "Stranger In This World" is stark, introverted stuff and great self-analysis material. "The Ship I Sail" is real Billy Bragg fare and "Dusty Dry" works well, making good use of MC's voice and intonation. Miles has assembled a useful bunch of musicians and it pays off. His voice comes across in the Old Grey Whistle Test solo performer territory of the 70s and The Dark And The Light' contains both humour and strength in its lyric. Worth a spot at The River this year. Keep the material coming Miles, whether you're Cain, Salter, or whatever.
