From my perspective the big problem with Michael W Smith albums is that he has lost his ability to be a pertinent, and at times highly creative, maker of pop albums. Although the 'Stand' album he recorded in 2007 with Leeland Mooring had some excellent moments, in truth the last really great Smith album was 'I'll Lead You Home' back in 1995. Maybe it's been the diversification of his talents (which now take in such varied activates as worship leader, movie actor and confidante to American presidents) which has led to his loss of pop music relevancy but however it has happened it has to be said that 'Wonder' is good only in parts. The cinematic "Run To You", the rather haunting "Forever Yours" and a couple of other songs show Michael still has songwriting craft and vocal ability in his musical armoury but, for me, this album still fails to grip the listener from beginning to end.

Product Description

Michael W. Smith set the tone for great pop music throughout his career. Now he delivers Wonder, a pop-driven, emotionally charged project described as lyrically introspective, hopeful and vulnerable while musically anthemic and cinematic.

After his most recent and highly successful release, A New Hallelujah, Michael W Smith spent time on the road touring in the US and internationally. This allowed him time to once again let his heart view the world we live in, and using his gift of music, begin to express the feelings and thoughts that arose out of these trips.

These moments, and other life milestones, were the genesis for his latest CD, Wonder.

Ten new songs pack this new Michael W Smith project with subject matter that is sure to pierce your heart, backed by a relevant musical journey.

Smitty says, “These songs on this project are hopeful, anthemic and healing – musically and lyrically. I had a lot I wanted to say and the songs on this album allowed me to open up and do just that.

“Great songs are hard to find. I fell in love with Save Me From Myself the first time I heard it a year and a half ago. And now, a year and a half later, I still love the hook, the chorus and just the bigness of it. The message is true to my heart: ‘You save me, save me from myself. There is no-one else I’d lean on. Save me, you save me from myself. There is no-one else to set me free.’”

This Album is one of Michael's Best with excellent musical arrangements and words that deal with some deep subjects.
Having met him he is the real deal and his music continues to inspire me and grow on me.
I hope you too are blessed!
