Have you heard the one about the songbook? When is a songbook not a songbook/ When it is a transcription or a Michael W Smith Best Loved Favourites'. Is a songbook meant for fans to sing along to in manageable keys with easy to moderately difficult chords and time signatures, or is it meant to be a fairly accurate transcription of what went down on the album for accomplished musicians to test themselves and impress their musician friends at church? In my experience it is the former. Songs that contain three time signatures which alternate back and forth, tricky key changes and chords which sometimes change at a rate of knots make up the main part of this book. The song "Place In This World", reads like an exam test piece with chords and a modulation to test and perplex. If you are working on higher grade exams and hoping to go to music college, try it. But if you want something moderately difficult, to occasionally pick up your guitar and sing and play along to, buy the 'Beatles Complete' instead.
