In the few short years since Michael O’Brien shook off the label of Twila Paris’s keyboard player and established himself as a Christian music artist in his own right, he’s produced two albums which have been critically acclaimed. Listening to his latest it’s easy to see why, since he writes an inspirational style of pop material that is easy to listen to but challenging at the same time. Some of it is rather sentimental in “Butterfly Kisses” style, but it’s mostly radio friendly stuff. “These Days” has a chunky beat, “Give Me Some Room” rocks merrily along, and “Palm Of Your Hand” with words by Mark Gersmehl of White Heart, is a haunting ballad with a simple piano and string arrangement. Production is excellent, playing time at 51 minutes is generous, and an all-round air of quality pervades. If you don’t mind a bit of slush occasionally, you’ll like this one, as I did.
