By mid October of '98 this cd hits the shelves.
I had seen a concert performance of starter song
"John The Revelator"; written in 1975 by the well known
Rusty Goodman.
The songs heard here have a touch of R & B & southern gospel
flavor.
Another song that many gospel artists are grabbing
hold of is "The Midnight Cry"; who can ever forget when the
song graced the airwaves, sung by ccm
newcomer Clay Crosse at time in mid 90's.
Michael slows down the pace for old hymn "Up Above
My Head". 10 years later Kevin Max of DC Talk would
record the song in faster rhythm and feature first lady of
CCM Amy Grant.
I love the piano intro on his cover of Vince Gill's
"Go Rest High On That Mountain", nice job Michael.
I'm sure Mylon Lefevre joined in the gospel jubilee on his
cover of "Gospel Ship"
Michael digs back over 50 years for "Dig A Little Deeper"
love the southern gospel flavor.
Another fast favorite for ccm is the awesome
"I Bowed On My Knees And Cried Holy": great lyrics!
This is quite different from Michael's initial recordings
into the ccm genre. God bless, Don
