Did you know that there were sardines in the Sea of Galilee? Well, you do now. There are plenty of other facts you will learn by watching the DVD that accompanies this reissue of Michael's 2002 release. The CD has already been reviewed on Cross Rhythms, so I'll stick to the DVD: Michael walks about Israel talking about the life of Peter, he's relaxed in front of a camera and easy to listen to. It helps to see where Peter was fishing when Jesus talked to him, there's a devotional quality here, not just teaching: see and hear the gentle lapping sounds of the Sea upon which Jesus taught and walked. If you love Christ it can be quite moving. Check out the remains of Peter's house and see the structure they built on top of it. I don't know why they build churches on top of things that were mentioned in the Bible, but they do so I guess we have to put up with it. I learnt some interesting things about Peter. Michael certainly made me think, explaining that Peter was an emotionally complex man. I began to see that Peter wasn't simple but kind of messy like the rest of us. Once, when in a boat, Peter was admonished for his lack of faith, so at the next opportunity he wanted to show Jesus that he had plenty of faith and requested that he should be allowed to get out of the boat and walk on the water with Jesus. He didn't want to let Jesus wash his feet, because he had just seen Jesus transfigured with Elijah and Moses. I like teaching that shows me things that I'd never thought of before, teaching me something new; Michael has a good bash at it. Not that everything is exactly spot on (what teaching is, outside of the Bible?), saying Peter was absolutely terrified by the success of catching a big bunch of fish, and responded by saying "I'm a sinful man, get away from me." Hmmm, I always thought that it was Christ's holiness which elicited Peter's response. 55 minutes, maps, Scriptures, explanations, some songs and fine photography, recorded with Day Of Discovery on location, it's an attractive addition to the CD.
