American grassroots ministry band Mercyme have taken their brand of melodic rock and recorded a worship album and with the current climate of excitement about worship sweeping the USA, this shouldn't surprise us. They execute the project with aplomb and though this album is miles better than the majority of major worship labels' fare, there's still something missing in the overall approach. Mixing rock, pop and alternative styles together, there are some rootsy things breaking through here and there and some nice Hammond style organ sounds, pleasant vocals and faint violins a fiddlin'. There's also full on rock on "Here For You" and much enthusiasm on "Happy Little Song" as well as a sort of sub Third Day thing which rears up now and again. Most curious! It all sounds curiously familiar without being distinctive. Occasionally something leaps out - "Its My Joy" is one such moment but overall whilst this is a good effort, it falls short of being amazing!
