'Jericho' is the latest album to be released by the promising Brighton-based singer/songwriter. The album ranges from high energy declarations of faith to tender, more vulnerable pieces and is a delightful and diverse recording. One can't help but note the growing maturity and depth shown by this talented vocalist and songwriter. Production by Mike Sandeman (who used to play in the band Phatfish) ensures that each song demonstrates a rich musical palette and Melissa's voice shows classical purity while retaining its contemporary edge. "Rock Of Ages" kicks off with some stunning Celtic-flavoured harmonies reminiscent of those by Enya and reimagines the old, familiar hymn to re-examine the theme in a fresh way. "The Watchman" has a musical soundscape like that of a dramatic movie score with a haunting violin helping to set the brooding scene of yearning and declaration which Melissa's piercing vocal delivers expertly. The strongest song on the album is "Rachel" which was commissioned by a friend of Melissa's and is based on a prophetic message from the Bible telling Rachel to cease her weeping for her children are coming home. This piano-based song stirs the soul and explores a biblical character from a fresh perspective. If 'Jericho' is anything to go by I am sure Melissa's musical career can only go from strength to strength.
