If you thought that all music emanating from Zarc Porter's wondrous Perfect Music was rave, you've not yet heard of Max. Though he spends much of his time working alongside the Worldwide Message Tribe with their holy vision to win Manchester schools for Christ, Max's solo music is something different again. This album was recorded at Max's house and remixed at Perfect Music, and shines with a luminous innocence recalling the carefree glories of 60s pop with just a tad of the Hot House Flowers of today. Max's laid-back approach is like a summer breeze, blue skies and sunshine. The songs? Well "Call My Name" is a potential classic while almost the whole album bounces along merrily, only occasionally taking on a mellower groove, like "Let Me Take You" with the guitar sounding very bluesy, and "In My Field" amazing in the simplicity of its music and message. I think it's terrific. My husband thinks it's terrific! Do yourself a favour and investigate the songwriting craft and pop hook sensibilities of Max.
