The former Commissioned vocalist returns, after the success of his previous live album, to turn in a compelling set that encompasses the best urban and gospel styles currently popular Stateside. As with every other R&B gospel album recorded this year, there are five different teams of producers sticking their oars in. Consequently, you get former band mate Fred Hammond's stripped down funk on "I Wanna Give You More" and soulful ballad production for the title cut. The seemingly omnipresent Percy Bady helps out on the sweet soul "Give Thanks" and the thoroughly contemporary smooth "Power" and the strong ministry of "Won't Let Go" with its message of perseverance. Other outstanding contributions include the almost drum and bass feel of the percussive "Do Your Dance", which pushes Marvin into the cutting edge urban end of things, along with the other track produced by J Moss and Paul Allen, "Thank You Lord" which is equally fresh sounding. Stanley Brown produced social commentary "What 'Bout The Children" is as moving as it is slick and, just for good measure, "You Brought Me" finds Marvin giving it some on an old-fashioned gospel number. Eclectic? Yeah! But with so many cooks, I am happy to report that this particular broth isn't only unspoilt, it's a tasty, delicious feast!
