As far as I know this is Marty's first ever gospel album, quite strange really from such a long standing country artist well known for his Christian beliefs. I am a little confused by the statement on the back cover, "Songs From The Marty Stuart Show Seasons 1-6." For those of you not familiar with either Marty or his music, for some years now Marty has had a long running country music show on RFD TV, which for an all too short time was shown here in Britain. Indeed on the strength of this Marty and his group performed a fantastic show in London a couple of years ago. However to my ear, none of the recordings here seem to be from any TV show and there is no audience applause. However I do well remember Marty singing some of these on the TV show, notably "There's A Rainbow At The End Of Every Storm", "Just A Little Talk With Jesus" and the song written by Folsom Prison inmate Glen Shirley, "Greystone Chapel" which appeared on Johnny Cash's memorable prison album. We then have powerful versions of "Walking In Jerusalem (Just Like John)" and Marty's wife Connie Smith - a country star in her own right, of course - joins in on the very moving "Walking My Lord Up Calvary's Hill". Marty does a fantastic version of the Johnny Cash classic "He Turned The Water Into Wine" and this fine album concludes with the very thought provoking "The Unseen Hand". As far as I know the only musicians apart from Marty himself are his regular band, Kenny Vaughan, Harry Stinson and Paul Martin on guitars, bass and drums, who all also harmonise brilliantly! Highly recommended!
