As you probably know, Mark Heard died about 18 months ago. If you have never heard Heard, this is an excellent introduction to this much missed muso. Mark was a multi instrumentalist record producer extraordinaire, who wrote lorry loads of material (some unreleased songs appear on this recording) - this offering gives many of his finest. Personal favourites are "House Of Broken Down Dreams" and his wonderful version of "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". I've got to admit that when Mark delivers the line, "He lives and I shall conquer death", the fact of the statement nearly made this reviewer's heart hit his chest...a powerful line slammed home by someone who now lives in the full knowledge of God's promise to believers. Garth Hewitt, Buddy and Julie Miller, The Choir, Rich Mullins and a whole host of CCM stars loved this man and his music... why don't you join the list?

I have this great collection of songs from Mark's last 3 cd projects; released after Mark's passing, what a loss to ccm world of music. The basic 3 minute superb "Strong Hand of Love" starts off this 18 track set; love it!! You can hear the vocals of Julie Miller on "Look Over Your Shoulder" from 1991;in fact you will hear Julie's vocals on several of the songs. Included in this set of songs is an old classic hymn "My Redeemer Lives"; sung from the heart of Mark as only it could be sung. I really like the upbeat "Another Day in Limbo";luv the lyrics to "Dry Bones Dance"from 1990. If you listen close enough, you can hear a touch of the pop group Eagles' sound on "House of Broken Dreams"; I just love this song!:great chorus. "Love is so Blind" projects Mark's poetic side with it's lyrics. Every song is worth complimenting; the lyrics are so captivating to the listener. "No" is a new song, tells a story; kinda reminds me of the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby":great song! I love the 1992 "The Orphans of GOD"; top notch song and lyrics, inspite of its more than 6 minutes of song; great lengthy instrumental tag.
"What Kind of Friend" (originally from 1991), this piano version is awesome!;the less than 2 minutes hits home!It needs to be heard! GOD Bless! -Don

There is no one quite as honest and open in his songwriting as the late Mark Heard. Mark was to me an always accessible and honest source of encouragement, with songs that cut deep and describe the meat of God and not just the milk. Mark's lyrical brilliance is hardly ever matched, the raw potency of songs like Look Over Your Shoulder, orphans Of God and Treasure of The Broken land are true joys to behold in a cold Christian music scene. It is so sad that Mark is no longer with us. his legacy is the truth is like a knife, but it is a knife i will always love and cherish when i hear it in his sweet songs. No one else today moves me as much as this guy, and he's been dead for 16 years now, that must say something! Mark would rate as my top artist of all time now as i get older. High Noon is a perfect collection of his finest songs. Hammers And Nails is the most powerful song ive ever heard. Love IS so blind is another hard hitting poetic and honect description of the real meaning of love. Nod Over Coffee has the human condition down 100 percent perfect. This man was and still is beyond awesome. Thankyou Mark for your music. It is beyond doubt a wonder of God.
