It’s not every day that one comes across a CD so uplifting that you want to play it all day and worship God for it – and today was not one of those days. It takes a substantial degree of skill to strip away most of the ‘blessing’ from a song and leave it bland, mediocre and mundane but this CD manages to achieve it spectacularly and it should, at least, be complimented on that. The sleeve blurb informs us that it contains “One hour of continuous praise presenting the best new and classic songs…” but only three come from the years ’96-’98, seven more are from earlier ‘90s and a further seven are drawn from the ‘70s and ‘80s – they can’t like most of the ‘new’ songs. Neither is the CD “one hour” long – it’s 71 minutes (the highlight of the album being the 72nd one) – nor is the music ‘continuous’ – the breaks are often kept to a minimum between the individual tracks but there are notable exceptions of some length (and what a relief they are, too). Music destined for the Christian coffee shop, no doubt, or for those long nights when the sleeping tablets just aren’t working. Lee H Smith
