M.C. is a tough rapper, of that there is no doubt. The fact that his roaring debut album went platinum should demonstrate he has a mean way with the rhythm and rhyme. He specializes in "positive" messages, not for him the druggy references and sexual boastings of some of his compatriots. Whether he's a Christian, however, is still to be firmly established. On the plus side, M.C. has rapped on John Gibson's classic "The Wall" and has an explicitly spiritual cut here called "Pray". On the minus side our man is a friend of that most confused of all spiritual schizophrenics Prince and offers here a number written with Prince "She Soft And Wet" which is high on the sleaze factor. Let's then just concentrate on the album, a tough "Here Comes The Hammer" opener, and anaemic revival of the Chi-Lites "Have You Seen Her", a good for the feet "Dancin' Machine". An album good only in parts.
