Luma's EP has a very cool design - the Golden Gate Bridge, and other sparkly objects inside. A good start! Having won the Lanarkshire Battle Of The Bands 2003 and opened for Brian Houston, Luma is clearly a band with a great deal of promise. The music is a blend of intelligent, atmospheric guitar work, beautifully arranged and crafted songs. Oh yes, and also some cool theremin effects! In terms of comparisons, Derek McAlpine's voice reminds me of Remy Zero's Cinjun Tate, and musically, some moments remind me of The Violet Burning circa 'Demonstrates Plastic And Elastic'. The EP is great - it has grown on me after just a few listens and the songs have become a part of everyday life for me. Here is a band to watch out for. I look forward to a full-length album!
