In the '70s Leon Patillo emerged as a solo artist and much was made of his experience as lead singer of Santana with whom he appeared on two albums. My first view of him was a support act for Andrae Crouch on a 1979 tour where there was no doubting his talents both as a singer and a keyboard player. This compilation of his "classics", released in 1996, includes 14 oldies of pop R&B gospel from his old Myrrh albums. The opening epic "Cornerstone" is worshipful and catchy and it's followed by "Jesus" with its funky production. His marriage song "Flesh Of My Flesh" is probably the most successful song here and who knows how often it's been sung at weddings! One song I'd have expected to find here is missing which is his worship hit "Sing Unto The Lord". Overall, the years have not been particularly kind to these songs since the production sounds quite clunky and synth heavy in places. But if you have fond memories of grooving to some of these tracks at Christian parties you might want to search this collection out.
