A sleeve that forgets good design in favour of coming on like a bad taste travel brochure designed to lure rich Americans to the UK’s capital hardly draws Britain’s Southern gospel enthusiasts to this project. Also, the florid arrangements, with the London Session Orchestra, are a long way from Southern gospel’s roots. But when you get a moving country ballad telling the tale of the thief on the cross like “Mercy Extended” or the skillfully crafted “He Forgets”, there’s still music here to charm and engage Homecoming Friends. So if you don’t mind the unnecessary tourist tat, you might want to investigate.
