As the support band Cava extended their set there was some doubt about whether Larry was going to show up and perform his own headline slot at the rebuilt Cavern Club on the second night of his last UK tour in 2001. Earlier in the day he had missed the Magical Mystery Tour bus outside the Beatles Story museum and had fallen catching up with the bus and tripped over a kerb injuring his hand as he broke his fall, cutting his knee and twisting his ankle, and as we discovered a week later in Dudley Road Hospital Birmingham, sustaining a hairline fracture and ligament damage in his foot. He excused himself part way through the trip around Beatles landmarks and we assumed he was off to seek medical attention for his wounds and he did not reappear until Cava were on their third extra song and by this time he was walking with a noticeable limp. The concert which followed entered into Larry legend as he finally left the stage almost four hours after belatedly showing up, by which time a good proportion of the audience had to leave to catch their last train or bus home. In the mean time, as well as treating fans to solo versions of his best known songs he found time to half-remember a few Beatles classics and give them his own twist and even sing a acapella song from My Fair Lady! The piano set saw him roll back the years as he sang older songs like "When I First Met You" from 'Bootleg', "Shot Down" from 'In Another Land' and the live favourite "The Tune" before finishing the gig with a short set backed by Cava. In between all the songs there was of course a lot of chat and stories from Larry. A nice snapshot of what made him such a unique and eccentric live performer and this two CD set also catches him just before his health issues took another big turn for the worse. he is in good spirits and good voice throughout the Cavern concert.
