First reaction was that Kyle had covered Ginny Owen's song "If You Want Me To" (originally from her 1999 album 'Without Condition'). I love that song, and her performances of it, to the extent that no one else could do it better. Then I realised that he wrote it with her! Credit where credit is due; this guy is a top notch songwriter. His version is more straight piano, as are most of the album tracks. If he walked into a hotel lobby, sat at the piano and played, you wouldn't get much different. The songs stand on their own strength without superfluous instrumentation. Simplicity is this 2008 album's style; the first track looks at the ordinary little things of life as those being the ones that make you happy whilst the track "Every Little Thing I Have" recognises those little things are all a reason to praise God. The album's title track has a slight change in style, taking Scott Joplin's ragtime piano style and setting it to Kyle's reflections on missing the point. Generally, apart from being the spitting image of Billy Joel - he also sounds a bit like him vocally - Kyle is clearly a top rate singer/songwriter and it is hardly surprising that his works have been recorded by numerous artists. Well worth investigating.
