Kre8tor, leader of Double Edge Ministries, released this, his debut album, in 2008. It's a project that manages to go to the heart of some of the painful issues that individuals go through in their lives and makes no bones about the fact that temptation and suffering are still realities in the lives of those who are saved. "What If" gets inside the head of someone struggling with doubt and pulled in many directions, but remaining hopeful and convinced that God is for them. There's some real creativity here too. "The Battle" takes the form of a thought-provoking rap battle between the artist and Satan, while "Valley Of Death" sounds like it was transplanted from some sort of urban spaghetti western. My absolute favourite cut though is the heart rending testimony to the artist's absent father, which blends stellar production with passionately delivered lines reflecting the artist's feeling of abandonment and the ensuing struggles with identity. Powerful stuff.
