Kirk Whalum's Christian faith has managed to remain one of life's better kept secrets but not through lack of trying on Kirk's part. For the uninitiated. Kirk is the American jazz saxophonist who is perhaps best known for providing that solo on Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You". The album takes its title from Kirk's liner notes which tell us, "The only thing that matters in this life is to be loved by him (see Philippians 3:7-9)". On this album. Kirk leaves his usual contemporary jazz slightly to one side and blends it with soul and blues. Larry Carlton provides guitar and Kirk reworks Stevie Wonder's "Living For The City", Gamble And Huffs "Drowning In The Sea Of Love" and a number of his own and his band mates' compositions. This isn't Kirk's most convincing recording and jazz fans should try his earlier 'Floppy Disc'.
