The live concert video by which all others will be judged for some considerable time. This gospel blockbuster directed by Debbie Allen has the kind of slick, choreographed production values normally associated with mainstream megastars and - with a dazzling array of guests - CeCe Winans, Trin-I-Tee 5:7, Crystal Lewis - and a packed Dallas auditorium going suitably nutty, this stands up against any of the competition. Occasionally the choreography gets a little intrusive but then, with Kirk contributing little in the way of vocals beyond his shouts and exhortations, there's an understandable desire to portray him as a perpetual motion machine. The surprises are the white guy in One Nation crew who emotes with riveting soul power and Trin-I Tee 5:7 whose slow song has all the gasping, melismatic abandon normally associated with earlier eras of gospel. But it's the gospel funk that proves most exciting and even my kids were whooping back "wooh wooh" to Mr Franklin's enquiry as to whether we wanted a revolution.
