For her first release with singer/songwriter husband Skyler, Kim offers a sound which is pretty different to her previous solo and Jesus Culture releases! You can kind of tell by the cover photos how it's going to sound: unplugged, folksy, intimate music played by a small group of friends out on the patio! And it's quite convincing. Skyler's voice is welcoming and warming as he takes the lead on the opening track "Your Voice". He fits in perfectly with the laid back vibe from the band: even the drums sound relaxed! Kim's voice however, is well known as one of the best powerful rock worship anthemizers, and she doesn't seem to fully adjust to the more intimate and subtle setting. She sounds great of course, but tends to over-power the acoustic instruments a little. You sense the couple know this, and they avoid any cheesy duets, rather taking turns to sing the lead. "Face To Face" has Skyler singing about meeting Jesus, while his "Beauty Of Your Presence" is a celebration of God being with us here and now. In between, Kim delivers "Christ The Rock" with a sparse piano riff and spine-tingling strings. You can even hear the piano pedals creaking under the creativity. Kim proclaims "Holy, Holy" in the bold manner only she can muster. "My One And Only" finishes the set as it began: a couple sitting on the porch with guitars and a group of friends sharing an intimate time of devotion. If this is "Home", it sounds like a good place to hang out!
