Like him or loath him, there is no doubting the country-tinged pop hitmaker's longevity. Now the veteran offers a gospel set which kicks off with a rousing, almost bluegrass style version of the great Carter Family classic "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". It sets the tone for a very well thought out album combining the old "I'll Fly Away" with the Whites, "In The Sweet By And By" with Winfields Locket, and "Amazing Grace" with some very fine contemporary pieces such as Vince Gill's "The Rock Of Your Love", "Peace" and "Grace". Unlike some of Kenny's music, the sympathetic accompaniment is in my opinion far superior to some of his highly orchestrated pieces, even if some of them did sell by the bucket load. Too many country stars have recorded gospel evergreens during some part of their career for concept not to feel slightly stale but in truth the sympathetic arrangements shown here make this a better than average example of a Nashville hitmaker doing the old time religion bit.
