To make pop rock, ie, rock music which retains the primeval thrust of raw rock while grafting on hummable hooks and radio friendly rhythms, is no easy task and even in the mainstream cash-bloated bands like Oasis fail as often as they succeed. So it is thrilling to report that Kato, after years of dues-paying culminating in their 20-town tour at the beginning of 2002, have delivered an album with the potential to break through into the international Christian music world. The effect is sonically stunning, thanks in part to deft production from Dave Lynch where superb string sections are artfully integrated into billowing guitarscapes, and in part to Keith Ayling's pining vocals which exude a haunting vulnerability. You'll be hearing several tracks from this album in the coming months for surely 'Songs To Help You Survive' will soon be pounding from all discerning music buffs' stereo systems.
