His first new release in four years, Grammy Award-winning American blues rock artist Jonny Lang has added yet another quality album to an already impressive back catalogue. Lang's gritty and soulful vocals have never sounded better and his lead guitar work continues to inventively push the boundaries in an attempt to get his instrument of choice to say new things - all of which makes for a thrilling release that offers up something new on each repeat play. The earthy stomper "Make It Move" opens the album in style and documents Lang's battle and ultimate victory against negative thoughts whilst the likes of "Last Man Standing" and "Into The Light" continue the theme of perseverance and rising up against the odds. In an album chock full of virtuoso moments, the title track's Hendrix-like solo and a switch to falsetto in the funky "What You're Made Of" both surprise and delight whilst the thundering anti-war song "Bitter End" is a simply stunning piece of work. Such is the quality found on this release, even throwaway numbers like the overly schmaltzy love song "Bring Me Back Home" and the breezy chart fodder of "Stronger Together" would be highlights on any other album whilst the epic Latin-tinged "Singing Songs" closes proceedings in breathtaking fashion.
