Only very occasionally do Cross Rhythms publish an interview with an artist before he or she has released a full-length album but in Welshman John Nicholas' case, the quality of his live performances (his skill with the loop pedal has to be seen to be believed) and the quality of his four singles that preceded this EP made John a talent deserving of the accolade. Whether he's doing the stripped down acoustic vibe on "I Care" or the pop rock of Cross Rhythms radio hit "Run Away" on which John sounds a little like Bryan Adams, one encounters a singer and song craftsman of exceptional ability. John never resorts to obvious rhymes or hackneyed imagery while his voice can encompass blue eyed soul power as well as the intimate near whisper of the sensitive songsmith. Production too is well judged and with an excellent new song "Rely", which poses the thought-provoking question of who do we have in life that we can completely rely on, one has a top rate release every bit as good as the Sheenans and Meyers of this world. Here's hoping John's courage and patience in pursuing his dream will eventually bring him an abundance of streams and downloads.
