If like me you'd long since lost interest in the huge recorded output of Christian music's most famous Franciscan friar, I would suggest it's time for a re-evaluation. Where once his albums seemed made to an identikit contemplative template, with John Michael crooning Catholic imagery about finding the silence within, with a full orchestra filling in the sound, now the veteran has well and truly returned to his Jesus rock roots. And pretty impressive it is too. Lashings of bluesy electric guitar, some reverb-laced drumming and songs that go for the biblical jugular as they remind us of the forthcoming judgment ("Get Ready"), the resurrection ("He Is Risen") and salvation ("There's Room Inside") John Michael is in good voice, brother Terry adds some great harmonies and the whole album has a gutsy, organic feel which connect with all those who remember the Mason Proffit Band or don't care for the over-produced technical trickery of much modern rock. All in all a most welcome return to creative form for the veteran.
