What refreshing originality this man's brought to us. Reviewers went through a stage of saying "Refreshing parts that other music can't reach", and there's really no better comment on Talbot's contribution. People whose prejudice against Catholicism can be viewed soaking up longed-for spiritual nourishment from J.M.T.'s prolific tape output. Blinkered evangelicals, charismatics et al have realised there's more to it all than the clapping, jumping and grinning treadmill. Surprise, surprise! The video sets Talbot mainly in the great outdoors, setting his meditative songs against some well-presented, tasteful scenes of Creation's beauty. Some songs are placed in a corporate worship setting of what is, presumably, the Franciscan Community that's John's home base. "Ministry" is an overworked, abused word, but here's a slice of rich spiritual life, an oasis, for many perhaps a first, tantalising glimpse of an alternative brand. A 54 minute treat that could "change your life" as they say, or at least provide a sample of a different dimension.
