Formerly one half of Christian instrumental duo Simeon and John, Birmingham-based guitar virtuoso Gerighty has revisited his roots by recording an album of classical work. Whilst the majority of John's present day work largely centres on meditational pieces, he is more than qualified to approach a project such as this thanks to the fact that he studied classical guitar at London's renowned Trinity College Of Music. In fact, Gerighty's highly accomplished take on familiar classics such as "Allegro" and "Romanze" by Christian G Sheidler and Isaac Albeniz's intricate "Asturias" allows his work in this genre to stand shoulder to shoulder with classical guitar giants like John Williams and Julian Bream. As the album title suggests, there is an overriding Spanish feel to proceedings with pieces by indigenous composers Francisco Tarrega and Fernando Sor making several appearances whilst Gerighty wisely includes compositions by writers from elsewhere to add variety to the collection. In summary, this is an exemplary showcase for the classical guitar by one of the instrument's leading exponents.
